Alex McNeill of More Light Presbyterians and featured subject in the Out of Order Documentary is coming to NYC to lead the Not So Churchy community in a workshop entitled Connecting the Dots Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation. Not So Churchy is a member church of More Light Presbyterians.

During our time together we will increase familiarity with and comfort in discussing the nuances of LGBTQ identities, with a particular emphasis on transgender and gender nonconforming identities. If you wish there was a better way to talk about gender identity and sexual orientation that doesn’t segment people into categories but unites us all in a journey of discovery and expression, then this morning together is for you! Together we will inspire new ways of thinking and teaching others about gender and sexuality.

7:00-8:00 pm

Challenging notions of God and feminism that failed to include the experiences of women of color, Delores S. Williams' Sisters in the Wilderness became one of the texts that established the field of African-American womanist theology. This theology seeks to explore intersections and the interplay of oppressions about race, sex, and class.

Join NSC as we explore Williams' book and explore how Sisters in the Wilderness is still relevant and speaking to us more than 20 years after it was originally published.

For our first discussion led by Matthew Dimick, we will read through chapter 2! Order your copy of the book here: https://goo.gl/4NaWxD

Not So Churchy Marches in St. Pat's for All Parade

We will march in the St. Pat's For All Parade in Queens on Sunday, March 5 and join other faith communities representing many religions. This is a great way to get the word out about Not So Churchy! We will gather about 1pm in Astoria, so just let Mieke know if you can join.

From their website: "The St. Pat's for All parade celebrates the diversity of the Irish and Irish American communities of New York. First held in 2000, St.Pat's for All cherishes and celebrates an inclusive St. Patrick's season. Ours is the first in the 260 years + of Irish parades in New York City to be open and welcoming to all who wish to share in the spirit of the day. We err on the side of hospitality."
